FAQ

What can I expect during my first treatment?

When you come for your first treatment I will take a confidential case history. This will enable me to discuss any symptoms you may have and also to check your general health background and any possible “contraindications” to deep tissue and sports massage. I will do a detailed examination and assessment so that we can pinpoint the problem and swiftly address the injury. Each treatment is then tailored to the individual and the initial assessment helps to develop a treatment programme for your individual requirements.

What are Contraindications?

These are reasons why sports massage may be an inappropriate treatment, or reasons why I may have to take particular care on certain areas of your body. Some examples of contraindications are tumours, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), recent surgery or illness, infectious skin diseases & blood disorders. These will be checked & discussed before we proceed.

What should I wear?

It is up to you as to which parts of your body are included in the massage. As I use my hands & arms in conjunction with an oil or lotion to perform massage these areas do need to be unclothed. However towels are used to cover you & your modesty is considered at all times. Normal underwear is fine & some people like to wear a pair of shorts. Ladies should wear a bra that is easily unclipped so I may get to their back muscles. It is also advisable to tie long hair back so it doesn’t get in the way.

How often should I have a massage?

As often as you like (provided that you are not suffering from any condition for which massage is contra-indicated – ask if in doubt). Some people find that a weekly massage helps to control their stress levels, while others find that a maintenance treatment every few weeks works well.  Depending on the condition, it can take between 2 – 6 treatments to make an effective and lasting improvement.

Are there any after-effects from Sports massage or deep tissue massage?

You may feel tired after the massage so it is recommended that you don’t do anything vigorous. Your muscles may also feel as if they have had a ‘work-out’ if the massage has been very deep. This is normal and should go away over the next couple of days.

What is your cancellation policy?

In accordance with standard practice, we regret that the full appointment fee will be charged for missed appointments or non-attendance unless 24 hours notice is given.

Do you issue gift vouchers?

Yes, we do. Gift vouchers are valid for six months from the date of purchase.

Can I claim for my treatment under private health?

I am eligible to treat clients of the private health insurer Pruhealth. This means that some Pruhealth policy holders may have treatments covered under the terms of their contract. Treatments may also be covered by other health insurers. Clients should check with their provider.
